Ayanna Witter-Johnson releases new EP 'Colour War'
Multi-talented singer, songwriter, pianist and cellist Ayanna Witter-Johnson, releases her brand new EP Colour War today. The EP is made up of four tracks which encapsulate a moment in time in Ayanna’s musical journey, a snapshot. Each song tells a story about hope, equality, equity, voices being heard and not allowing the trials and tribulations of racism to pull you down.
Ayanna speaks on each of the tracks:
“‘Colour War’ is about colourism, especially when thinking back to what happened in 2020, and then looking at what is going on now. However, the overall EP is about hope, and not allowing the trials and tribulations of racism to pull you down. It’s an encouragement to keep on doing what you’re doing, which for Ayanna means that she needs to keep singing, for others it will be something else.”
“‘Are You Listening?’ simply asks whether our voices are being heard (especially as black women). Particularly when looking at broader society and areas such as government. Are they listening to us? Is society listening to us?”
“‘A Change Is Gonna Come’ recognises that we're in a time and space where, across the nations, people are pushing to fight for equality and equity. With that push, we continue to ask, who are the people that can really bring about change?”
“‘Sing On Nightingale’ is to inspire people to know that there is hope. Keep on singing. Just keep on.”
