Ed Carlsen releases first single 'kintsugi' from upcoming EP 'in the absence of stars'
Today, Ed Carlsen releases the anticipated single 'kintusgi' from his upcoming EP in the absence of stars. The single is accompanied by a live show at Kuldīga Piano Festival (Latvia) on the following day.
The first single “kintsugi” (a word coming from the ancient Japanese ceramic art tradition) is about filling up such void by decorating the broken and “less pretty” parts of ourselves and transforming them into gold, into our most precious features.
Following a two-year partnership with Sony Masterworks’ XXIM Records, Ed’s new self-released EP marks a transition towards a whole new approach to music, bringing a distinct change of pace and new insights into sound.
Produced by his long-time friend and collaborator Marco Caricola, in the absence of stars, is distinguished by his signature blend of electronic beats and dreamy soundscapes, and it portrays the first milestone in this new journey of self-discovery.
“The absence of stars refers to a void of any kind, either literal, emotional, creative or whatever kind. It is also the root meaning of the word desire (without-stars). Over the winter and spring, such void kept me company day by day, and as I’ve begun accepting its presence, it opened up to endless creative possibilities.”
Alongside the single, Ed has released a stunning music video which perfectly captures the song, watch this below.
